IT'S A LIFESTYLE: Cowtown Skateboards rolls into Goodyear
Relocating one of their West Valley shops to Goodyear has proven to be a win for Cowtown Skateboards – not to mention Goodyear skating enthusiasts.
“We wanted to be a lot closer to the skate park, so we decided to look into it, and we found this spot, and we moved in here, and it’s been really great,” said Frank Covarrubias, manager of Cowtown Skateboards at Palm Valley Marketplace, 14175 W Indian School Rd.
Cowtown recognizes skateboarding isn’t just a hobby; it’s a lifestyle. That’s why it provides custom-designed skateboards that its customers love.
“For the most part, Cowtown skateboards are really, really popular with kids, and they’re really good starter boards. I think that’s what sells the most, honestly, in the store,” Covarrubias said.
But Cowtown, a locally-owned business with four Valley locations, succeeds because its employees live the skateboarding lifestyle.
“Every single employee that we have is a skateboarder, and everybody knows what they’re talking about,” Covarrubias said. “We don’t suggest things unless we actually know it’s going to work, or we actually know that it’s something we value ourselves.”
Cowtown’s staff also works hard to keep up with always-changing trends within the skateboarding community.
“It’s always trending differently, and so many people gravitate to different things,” Covarrubias said. “I think it’s important for someone that’s selling you the product to know what the product is and how it works, and if they’ve ever used it. I think that everybody here does a great job doing that.”
For those who have never taken up skateboarding, Covarrubias says they’re missing out – and it’s never too late to learn.
“I think skateboarding provides a really good support system,” he said. “If you’re someone who feels like traditional sports aren’t the thing for you, skateboarding doesn’t really have rules. You can do it your own way. You can learn your own way.
“Skateboarding is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me in my life, and I’m sure all my friends agree. You should come to Cowtown and get a skateboard because we’re all family here and we know what we’re talking about, and I think we make you feel welcome no matter who you are.”
