Goodyear residents eligible for utility bill assistance program


What: Utility Assistance Screening Event

Do you need help in paying your gas or electric bill or know someone who does?

The city of Avondale Community Action Program is available to help income-qualifying Goodyear residents who are struggling to pay their utility bills and may need help.

The Avondale Community Action Program is hosting a utility assistance screening event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 at the Care1st Avondale Resource and Housing Center, 328 W. Western Avenue.

The program provides financial assistance through federal funds available to those who need help paying their gas or electric bill based on the number of people in the household and monthly income.

The day of the event, people are required to check in at the front desk and assistance availability will be on a first-come, first-serve basis for Goodyear, Avondale and Litchfield Park residents only. For those who cannot make it to the screening, they can schedule an appointment with Avondale’s CAP office by calling 1-855-204-7797 at 8 a.m. on Mondays until all appointments are taken.

The monthly maximum household for one person is $1,675, ranging up to a monthly maximum income amount of $4,954 for a household of eight. To be eligible for assistance, one does not have to be behind or late on their bills.

You must have all of the following documents at the time of your appointment:

  • Proof of citizenship or legal residency for applicant


  • Identification card with picture of applicant


  • Social Security cards for all members of the household


  • Proof of income for the last 30 days (acceptable forms of proof include paycheck stubs from April 30 to May 29, a complete bank statement or an award letter from Social Security.


  • All utility bills (gas and electric)
