Cotton Lane closure near I-10 in Goodyear starts Monday, Aug. 14

Crews will complete work for opening improved Loop 303 frontage roads

GOODYEAR – Crews working to build the last phase of the Loop 303/Interstate 10 traffic interchange in Goodyear are close to reaching another project milestone.

New stretches of north- and southbound Cotton Lane between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street are scheduled to open to traffic on Saturday, Aug. 19, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

To allow for the completion of paving and lane-striping work, Cotton Lane will be closed in both directions between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street from 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, to 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

While Cotton Lane is closed, traffic on McDowell Road can detour south on Citrus Road and east on Yuma Road to reach Cotton Lane. Traffic on Van Buren Street can detour north on Sarival Avenue and west on McDowell Road to reach the northbound Cotton Lane connection to Loop 303 (via Thomas Road).

Weather permitting, as of Aug. 19 Cotton Lane will actually operate as separate north- and southbound frontage roads in the area between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street. The Cotton Lane frontage roads are located on either side of a new stretch of Loop 303 that’s under construction as part of the $63.5 million project to build the “south half” of the interchange connecting with Interstate 10.

The entire interchange project, including elevated freeway-to-freeway ramps, is scheduled for completion by November. Work on the job started in February 2016.

Additional upcoming restrictions are scheduled as follows:

  • Westbound I-10 ramp to northbound Loop 303 closed from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, for bridge painting. DETOUR: Exit westbound I-10 at Sarival Avenue and use westbound McDowell Road to northbound Cotton Lane to enter Loop 303 at Thomas Road.
  • Van Buren Street closed overnight between Sarival Avenue and Citrus Road from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, to 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, for pavement-marking work. DETOUR: Local access will be maintained. Other traffic can detour on McDowell Road.

The Loop 303/I-10 Interchange Final Phase project is part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Regional Transportation Plan approved by county voters in 2004. Funding sources include a countywide half-cent sales tax for transportation projects and the Phoenix region’s share of federal highway funds.
