Goodyear, Ariz. (Aug. 31, 2017) – North Lake in Goodyear’s Estrella community will be the picturesque background to wrap up the 2017 season of Ballet Under the Stars on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 5:30 p.m.

The city of Goodyear, Ballet Arizona and Newland Communities invite Goodyear residents to enjoy a free outdoor ballet performance that begins at 7 p.m. Residents are encouraged to come early with blankets and lawn chairs to reserve a seat and enjoy the festivities that include face painting, art exhibits and entertainment. Food will be available for purchase.

Complete with a stage, lighting, and costumes, Ballet Under the Stars uses the starry night sky and community as a backdrop to expose a whole new generation to the beautiful art of ballet. In its sixth year in Goodyear, the event draws a large crowd, including many who are experiencing the elegance and beauty of live ballet for the first time.

During the performance, students from Estrella Mountain Elementary School will have the opportunity to dance alongside the professionals as they showcase what they have learned from Class Act, one of Ballet Arizona’s education and outreach programs.

About the Arts in Goodyear
Ballet Under the Stars is just one of the many ways that the city of Goodyear engages the community with opportunities to experience the arts. Adding to the sense of community, public art is on display throughout the city and work by local artists is often on display throughout the city’s public spaces. To enhance the quality of life, Goodyear hosts a series of special events to engage the public in the arts such as: Lakeside Music Fest; Chalk Art in the Park; Hot Coffee Art Lectures; the Library Lecture Series; and the Mayor’s Select Art Contest. With a commitment to furthering art education, the city partners with school districts to cultivate awareness and appreciation of the arts in classrooms.

The Arts and Culture Commission was established in 2006 by the Goodyear City Council to create a distinct sense of place and cultural destination by integrating art into public spaces. Goodyear’s public art program promotes arts and cultural excellence in coordination with the private sector and other governmental agencies to increase awareness of the contributions of arts and culture to our economy and quality of life. The Goodyear Arts & Culture Commission provides leadership in developing a community identity through the arts that embraces, celebrates and unites all of our diverse histories, beliefs, cultures, and aspirations.
