Residents asked to help shape future recreation campus

Goodyear asks: “What recreation activities do you want to experience?”

Recreation Campus Concept Review Open House
Thursday, Dec. 7
5 – 7 p.m.
Goodyear Library Community Room, 14455 W. Van Buren Street, Suite C-102

Goodyear, Ariz. (Nov. 6, 2017) – What makes a community park outstanding? What activities belong in a recreation center? How do you want to cool off in the summer heat? These are just some of the questions residents helped the city of Goodyear answer in an idea sharing session held on Oct. 26 to help plan a new recreation campus coming to the city in 2020.

Using the ideas, vision and suggestions from Goodyear residents, city staff are working on a plan to transform 86 acres of dirt, located at the corner of Goodyear Boulevard and Estrella Parkway (just north of Desert Edge High School), into an alluring open space brimming with imaginative and practical amenities for people of all generations.  Phase I of this plan will include development of a 30-acre park, 30,000-40,000 square foot recreation center, and an outdoor aquatic facility.

The concepts under consideration will be presented for further discussion and more public input at an open house on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Goodyear Library Community Room, 14455 W. Van Buren Street, Suite C-102.

The future community gathering space is part of the City Council’s vision to offer healthy choices and recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities that adds to the sense of community and quality of life in Goodyear.
