Summit promotes city/school collaboration

Goodyear, Ariz. (March 27, 2017) – Council member Joanne Osborne, a champion of youth and community development, hosted the ninth annual Building Blocks to Great Schools summit on Tuesday, March 27 from 7:30 a.m. to noon at Goodyear City Hall, 190 N. Litchfield Road. Attended by decision makers from area school districts, neighboring cities and the city of Goodyear, the summit aimed to cultivate a thriving spirit of collaboration between local government and school administrators.

With an agenda focused on safety, city and school leaders shared best practices that bolster the quality of education and enrich the lives of students, families, teachers, and the greater community.

Established in 2009, Building Blocks to Great Schools encourages the active interaction and collaboration between cities and schools. The annual summit has resulted in many enrichments for local schools, hometown students, and Goodyear families including the establishment of campus-based police substations to expand the reach of community policing in neighborhoods, and the creation of a fun, competitive reading challenge that offers prizes to winning classrooms.
