Goodyear Appoints Judge Mayra Galindo Presiding Municipal Judge

Post Date:11/21/2018 1:31 PM

The Goodyear City Council has selected Judge Mayra Galindo to be the next presiding municipal judge.

“It was a very competitive process with several qualified candidates,” said Mayor Georgia Lord. “I am confident Judge Galindo will be a faithful servant to our community. She has devoted her career to outstanding public service and has done it with great distinction.”

Judge Galindo’s appointment was the culmination of an extensive recruitment process that involved the review of 32 applicants by an independent Judicial Selection Committee (JSC), which consisted of two judicial members and three citizens of Goodyear.  The JSC recommended four candidates for council consideration. After much consideration, Judge Galindo was selected for her demonstrated qualifications, temperament and commitment to her profession.

Judge Galindo has served as the Nogales Presiding Municipal Court Magistrate just short of eight years. She also served as court mediator for the Santa Cruz County Superior Court.  Prior to becoming a judge, she served as a Maricopa County Deputy Attorney and staff attorney in the private sector.  Prior to obtaining her Juris Doctorate from the Mitchell Hamline University School of Law, Judge Galindo double majored at the University of Arizona in political science and Spanish literature. She is fluent in both English and Spanish.

“I have devoted my career toward public service and look forward to continuing the growth and accomplishments of the Goodyear Municipal Court by delivering fair, timely and efficient justice to everyone, every day,” said Galindo.

The Hon. Michael Simonson retired in October. He became the city’s first full-time presiding judge nearly 20 years ago.

Judge Mayra Galindo will begin her presiding duties in January, 2019.
