Mayor Georgia Lord
It’s time to brush off our baseball caps and head to Goodyear Ballpark! The first pitch of the 2019 spring training season is scheduled for the afternoon of Feb. 23 with a rivalry matchup between our home teams, the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds! These two dedicated teams positively impact our community by bringing Major League Baseball, tourism and local support on an annual basis. Their contributions and support of our community is remarkable; let’s just hope they each have a remarkable spring training season too.
Spring training is a major economic driver for Arizona and we are lucky to have two talented Major League teams to call Goodyear home for their spring training season. Businesses often consider their employees’ quality of life when determining locations for their next investment. It has been said that happy employees are productive employees, and I am a firm believer that Goodyear is the place to be to grow a successful business. Spring training definitely adds to the value of our high quality lifestyle, and we are excited to be the home to future employers and community members throughout this next year.
Our tight-knit community also welcomes several visitors during this season, especially to enjoy our local businesses and hotels. Tourism is not only important to our business community, but also the city. The city of Goodyear receives annual funding to promote our city outside of Maricopa County through proposition 302 programing, which is driven by the number of hotel stays in our area. These monies allow us to develop a strong marketing strategy to entice our friends from Cincinnati and Cleveland to visit Goodyear and cheer on their favorite baseball star. Once they visit our high-quality community, I am confident they will quickly return to enjoy our wonderful amenities and welcoming business atmosphere, and soak in the sunshine while they can.
This will be an exciting season full of promotions to celebrate Goodyear Ballpark’s 10th anniversary. I hope to you see you there; I’m ready for the first pitch on opening day!
