City of Goodyear Recognized by the Healthy Arizona Worksites Program

Achieves platinum level for the first time

 2019 AZ Healthy Worksites 2

Goodyear, Ariz. – April 3, 2019 – The city of Goodyear was recognized recently by the Healthy Arizona Worksite Program for achieving the platinum level of excellence in worksite wellness for the first time ever.

The Healthy Arizona Worksite Award recognizes employers that are making efforts to positively affect the health and well-being of their employees, their families and their community by implementing comprehensive worksite wellness strategies.

“We believe that our employees are our most valuable asset,” said Goodyear City Manager Julie Arendall. “We want the city of Goodyear to be known as a great place to work, and to attract and retain a talented and dedicated workforce. One of the ways we do this is by investing in the health and wellness of our employees.”

The city of Goodyear employs nearly 550 fulltime workers and fosters a culture that focuses on the development and support of the whole employee, whether that be financial, career, social, physical, emotional or health related. As part of its wellness program, the city offers employees nutrition and healthy eating workshops; financial planning programs; and regular stress outlets like guided yoga that take place during lunch breaks or after hours.

The city recently added an onsite Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor with weekly office hours to help employees and their dependents with life issues; and it encourages employees to “get up and move” through programs like Move It Maricopa, a walking competition between other Valley cities and school districts.

The Healthy Arizona Worksites Program is a public health initiative offered by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH). Its mission is to help employers learn how to successfully implement worksite wellness initiatives to improve the health of their employees and businesses. For more information, go to
