The City of Goodyear is looking for church groups, school groups (junior high, high school, and college), service organizations, and corporate groups, as well as individuals, interested in volunteering for special events and/or one-time group projects. Listed below are the City's upcoming special events and group project opportunities.

OCTOBER 2018

Make A Difference Day - Saturday, October 27, 2018 - 6:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Make A Difference Day, held annually in October, is the largest national day of helping others - a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors.  In Goodyear, volunteers work together on projects of benefit to our community.

To volunteer, complete the 2018 Make A Difference Day Volunteer Registration Form.  All volunteers are required to complete a waiver.  The Parental/Guardian Consent Form needs to be completed for volunteers under 18 years old.  This year's projects are described below:

Manifold Station – 14980 W. Van Buren St. – Paint masonry fence.   (The Honey Foundation)

8 volunteers

4 hours

Latex gloves and wear comfortable shoes, old clothes, hats/sunscreen. City will provide paint and supplies.

Booster Station #8 – 3432 S. 143rd Ave. – Spread decomposed granite.

10 volunteers

4 hours

Shovels, rakes, wheel barrows (4), and wear comfortable shoes, old clothes and hats/sunscreen. City will provide decomposed granite material.

House Number Painting – Alley walls and curbs in Historic Goodyear

Hats, gloves and sunscreen. Project includes soliciting funding for reflective paint, stencils and other supplies.

Fire Hydrant Painting 1 – Canyon Trails Phase 1 – Paint 44 hydrants.  (J. Carpenter Eagle Scout Project)

28 volunteers (14 2-person teams)

Latex gloves, hats, paint brushes, base to cover ground. City will provide safety vests and paint.

Fire Hydrant Painting 2 – Canyon Trails Phase 2 & 3A – Paint 38 hydrants.  (The Odyssey Preparatory Academy)

26 volunteers (13 2-person teams)

Fire Hydrant Painting 3 – Wade Acres & Travis Park – Paint 22 hydrants(The Odyssey Preparatory Academy)

14 volunteers (7 2-person teams)

Fire Hydrant Painting 4 – Travis Park – Paint 10 hydrants. (The Honey Foundation)

Falcon Park – 15050 W. Indian School Rd. – Spread wood chips. (Western Sky Middle School Builders Club/Millennium HS Key Club)

30-40 volunteers

4 hours

Each family should bring their wheel barrel, a large shovel and rock rake. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear hats, sunscreen and old clothes. City will provide the wood chips.

Portales Park – 15620 W Coronado Rd. – Spread wood chips.  (Franklin Pierce University)

Goodyear Community Park – 3151 N. Litchfield Rd. – Plant trees/shrubs. (Desert Springs Community Church/Desert Edge HS)

50-75 volunteers

4 hours

Each family should bring a spade shovel to dig the holes and plant the plant/backfill. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear hats, sunscreen and old clothes. City will provide the trees/shrubs.

Estrella Parkway (Vineyard to Star Tower) and Cotton Lane (roundabout to bridge) – Clean up right of ways. (Pat’s Pack and Cotton Lane Crew)

10 volunteers

4 hours

Wear comfortable shoes, hats/sunscreen. City will provide trash bags, gloves and picker-uppers.

Home Painting – Home #1 – Prep and paint the exterior of the home of low-income senior Goodyear resident. (R. Patton Eagle Scout Project)

15-20 volunteers

4 hours (+ advance prep work)

Rollers, brushes, ladders/stools, paint sprayers (if available), and wear gloves, old clothes, hat/sunscreen. Sherwin Williams will donate paint.

Home Painting – Home #2 – Prep and paint the exterior of the home of low-income senior Goodyear resident.

15-20 volunteers

4 hours (+ advance prep work)

Rollers, brushes, ladders/stools, paint sprayers (if available), and wear gloves, old clothes, hat/sunscreen. Sherwin Williams will donate paint.

Construct driveway/cleanup yard of low-income senior Goodyear resident. (Palm Valley Church)

10-15 volunteers

4 hours (+ advance prep work)

Hats, sunscreen, comfortable shoes.

On-Going Group Projects

Group projects such as the following can generally be scheduled anytime during the year if there is a current need.

YANA (You Are Not Alone) Member Home Clean-up
(3-5 volunteers)
As needed

Pick-up and remove trash, trim weeds, help repair and beautify a YANA member's home in Goodyear. To volunteer your organization or as an individual, complete the YANA Member Home Clean-up Volunteer Registration Form. All volunteers are required to complete the waiver. The Parental/Guidance Consent Form needs to be completed for volunteers under 18 years old.
