The City of Goodyear is looking for church groups, school groups (junior high, high school, and college), service organizations, and corporate groups, as well as individuals, interested in volunteering for special events and/or one-time group projects. Listed below are the City's upcoming special events and group project opportunities.

OCTOBER 2017

Make A Difference Day
Saturday, October 28, 2017, 6:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, the City of Goodyear will celebrate its 10th Make a Difference Day, which coincides with Make a Difference Day held nationally every 4th Saturday of October.  It is the largest national day of volunteering - a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. The City is looking for volunteer groups who can work on the projects listed below.

All volunteers have to complete the 2017 Make A Difference Day Volunteer Registration Form.  Volunteers below 18 years or age have to also submit the Parental/Guardian Consent Form.

Booster Site #21 – 1280 N. Sarival Ave. – Paint safety bollards and sweep gravel material around storage tank. (The Honey Foundation)

Push brooms, square shovels, wheelbarrows (2), latex gloves, and wear comfortable shoes, old clothes, hat/sunscreen.City will provide paint and supplies.

Well Site #18 – 1761 N. Palo Verde Dr. – Paint safety bollards. (The Odyssey Preparatory Academy of Goodyear)

Booster Station #8 – 3432 S. 143rd Ave. – Spread decomposed granite. (Available)

Shovels, rakes, wheel barrows (4), and wear comfortable shoes, old clothes and hat/sunscreen. City will provide decomposed granite material.

Manifold Station – 14980 W. Van Buren St. – Remove bush tree and paint masonry fence. (Eagle Scout Candidate, J. Taylor)

8+ volunteers

Handsaw, tree cutters, rake and shovel, and wear comfortable shoes, old clothes and hat/sunscreen. City will provide paint and supplies.

Fire Hydrant Painting 1 – Estrella – Paint 18 hydrants. (Key Clubs of Millennium, Verrado and Agua Fria HS)

12 volunteers (6 2-person teams)

Latex gloves, hats, paint brushes, base to cover ground. City will provide safety vests and paint.

Fire Hydrant Painting 2 – Estrella – Paint 20 hydrants. (Eagle Scout Candidate, S. Davis)

14 volunteers (7 2-person teams)

Skate Park – Paint fence. (Eagle Scout Candidate, L. Christensen/ Western Sky Builders Club)

Bullard Wash Phase 2 – Paint railing. (Estrella Foothills HS)

Wildflower Park South and North – Paint railings. (Desert Edge HS/Franklin Pierce U)

Pump Track maintenance - Foothills Community Park, 12795 S. Estrella Parkway (Available)

10 volunteers

Wear comfortable shoes, old clothes, and hat/sunscreen. City will provide supervision and supplies.

Home Painting – Home #1 – Prep and paint the exterior of the home of a low-income, senior (over 60), disabled or veteran homeowner. (Palm Valley Church)

20-25 volunteers

4 hours (plus advance prep work)

Rollers, brushes, ladders/stools, paint sprayers (if available), and wear gloves, old clothes, hat/sunscreen. Paint is being donated by Sherwin Williams.

Home Painting – Home #2 – Prep and paint the exterior of the home of a low-income, senior (over 60), disabled or veteran homeowner. (The Church at Litchfield Park)

20-25 volunteers

4 hours (plus advance prep work)

Rollers, brushes, ladders/stools, paint sprayers (if available), and wear gloves, old clothes, hat/sunscreen. Paint is being donated by Sherwin Williams.

YANA door hanger distribution – Walk door to door delivering door hangers in North Subdivision (NS), Historic Goodyear (HG), Canada Village (CV) and Wildflower. (La Joya HS JAG/ APS/YANA Members)

15 volunteers for NS, HG and CV/10-30 volunteers for Wildflower

2 hours

Hats, sunscreen, comfortable shoes.

On-Going Group Projects

Group projects such as the following can generally be scheduled anytime during the year if there is a current need.

YANA (You Are Not Alone) Member Home Clean-up
(3-5 volunteers)
As needed

Pick-up and remove trash, trim weeds, help repair and beautify a YANA member's home in Goodyear. To volunteer your organization or as an individual, complete the YANA Member Home Clean-up Volunteer Registration Form. All volunteers are required to complete the waiver. The Parental/Guidance Consent Form needs to be completed for volunteers under 18 years old.
