The City of Goodyear Arts & Culture Commission is excited to offer Creative Aging art classes for Adults 60+. Creative Aging is a national movement aimed at fostering an understanding of the vital relationship between creative expression and quality of life for older adults. 

Sessions take place on Tuesdays at the Loma Linda Community Center, 420 E. Loma Linda Blvd, Goodyear, AZ.

Intro to Drawing “Faces”, Session 1: January 30th-February 20th | Session 2: March 6th-27th

This introductory class for Creative Aging provides art instruction of foundational drawing techniques. Join instructor Gayle Glenn to learn proportion, line, shape, space, color and texture while using expressive facial artworks as inspiration.  Participants will use various drawing mediums during the four-week session.

*Please note that both sessions are the same subject matter. Participants may only register for one session.

Painting, March 6th-27th

Join teaching artist Debra Goley, from Catitude Gallery, in this lifelong learning class. This painting class for Creative Aging is a great continuing art class for past Creative Aging class participants. Participants will learn painting techniques to increase participants understanding of working in the medium and how to improve on composition. Debra will teach proportion, line, shape, space, color and texture while using master artworks as inspiration.  Participants will use various painting mediums during the four-week session.

Participants will use various drawing mediums during the four-week session.

Collage with Paint and Fibers, April 3rd, 10th, 17th, and May 1st

Join teaching artist, Debra Goley, from Catitude Gallery in this lifelong learning class. Beginners and experienced artists will enjoy creating two mixed media canvases following step by step instruction. Still Life of a fruit and bowl with the study of Cezanne’s use of light will be our first masterpiece. Our second creation will be a bird for flight.  Artist will learn composition, collage, shadow and color theory, how to let the brush do all the work.
