What you can do to help families in need
Loss of employment, injury or illness, abandonment and loss of a loved one are examples of circumstances that most often negatively affect the ability of individuals and families to provide gifts for children during the holiday season. The Goodyear Fill-A-Need program is gearing up to brighten the holiday season by helping connect families in need with the generous gifts and donations made available by City of Goodyear employees, residents and local businesses. The program traditionally provides gifts for children such as toys, clothing, and school supplies. Food and common household items such as toiletries and cleaning supplies are also provided. In 2016, the program provided clothing, toys, food and non-perishable items to more than 200 children from 40 Goodyear families. The program also benefited the Agua Fria Food Bank and the Southwest Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
All applications that have been received for the 2017 season will be reviewed in August. If you wish to assist in Fill-A-Need this year, please make sure to send your information to Mario Saldamando or call 623-882-7066.
Referrals/Applications will be solicited in August 2017
Program staff will visit with the families who are referred, and who have met the requirements of the program, to determine final program eligibility and the family's needs.
Pursuant to state law, the City is required to verify the immigration status of all persons applying for public benefits. All applicants will be required to complete an application as well as an applicant statement and provide documentation of status as U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or qualified alien requirement before their application will be considered for this program. Applications are also available at City Hall lobby at 190 N. Litchfield Road (Litchfield and Van Buren).
Donations will be accepted through December 5, 2017
Citizens, businesses, and civic organizations are invited to participate in the program by donating items such as new unwrapped toys, money, holiday gift wrapping supplies, or making monetary contributions to the program (used for gift purchases). Donations of items and monetary contributions can be made in the City Hall lobby at 190 N. Litchfield Road (Litchfield and Van Buren). Please leave donated items unwrapped. All donations and purchased items are wrapped and personally delivered by volunteers.
