Goodyear receives national award for fiscal responsibility
Award marks 13th straight year to be recognized, 18th time overall
For the 13th straight year, the city of Goodyear won the Distonguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association, highlighting the city's long-standing methods of fiscal responsibility.
It also marks the 18th time overall that Goodyear has won the GFOA award.
Goodyear Finance Director Larry Lange accepted the award for the city.
“It’s about making sure that you are presenting the budget in a way that provides the information easily enough for people to understand,” Lange said. “We pride ourselves in fiscal responsibility and smart spending while holding the line so we can continue providing strong services to our citizens.”
In order to receive the award, the city had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Goodyear was rated “proficient” in four categories that assess how well the city budget served as a: policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device while meeting other mandatory requirements.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,800 government finance professionals throughout the United States and Canada, and provides the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. Goodyear was among 1,340 entities receiving the award, according to the Government Finance Officers Association.
