City of Goodyear Emergency Declaration in Response to Coronavirus
City of Goodyear Issues Emergency Declaration in Response to Coronavirus
Mayor Georgia Lord today issued an Emergency Declaration in response to the Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. The declaration provides the resources needed for the city of Goodyear to keep the community as safe and healthy as possible while mitigating the spread of the virus outbreak.
“This is not in any way meant to cause panic. It’s quite the opposite,” said Mayor Lord. “This is to ensure that we have the resources and decision making abilities necessary to take care of our residents in these uncertain times.”
Goodyear joins the federal and state government, Maricopa County and fellow cities in issuing a declaration. Here is what it, in part, will allow the city to accomplish:
- To more quickly access financial assistance from the state and federal government, if available.
- To take all reasonable and necessary action to protect and preserve the safety and welfare of citizens and city employees while maintaining the highest level of services.
- To continue to support the local business community during and after the emergency declaration.
- To require all citizens and businesses to obey the law and cooperate with public officials in the effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Maricopa County Department of Health, and the Arizona State Department of Health Services. That guidance can be found here on the CDC website.
This declaration remains in effect until terminated by order of the Mayor.
“I have faith in our residents to help one another, and confidence that our businesses are doing everything they can to protect their employees, and our community,” added Mayor Lord. “We’ve been through tough times before, and we will bounce back stronger than ever.”
Goodyear City Hall remains open for business, but residents are encouraged to utilize online services if possible, including for bill payment. To see a list of impacted city events and facilities, visit www.goodyearaz.gov/coronavirus.
