Shop with a Cop

Each year the Goodyear Police Department celebrates the holidays with 20-30 well deserving children with its annual Shop with a Cop event. This is always our biggest and most anticipated event of the year.  Traditionally over 50 police department personnel join the Goodyear Mayor, Council, Volunteers, Sponsors and Ole St. Nick himself for this heart-warming occasion.

The events of the morning begin at Council Chambers with a meet and greet breakfast, where children are paired up with their officer. The excitement builds as Santa makes his grand entrance with a “ho, ho, ho!” Each child and his/her officer have a short visit with Santa as he gives each child a gift card to spend that morning at Wal-Mart.

Next, an impressive procession of police vehicles with lights and sirens blaring, make their way to Wal-Mart on Estrella. The procession, commanding the attention of onlookers, proceeds on Celebration Way and past CTCA where holiday cheer is spread to the patients and staff at the hospital.

Finally, the grand arrival at Wal-Mart! There is always great joy as smiling faces enter Wal-Mart where excited employees await to assist these special shoppers. Shopping carts and hearts are overfilled with joy as children pick out their treasures. Shop with a Cop is an annual tradition at the Goodyear Police Department and another example of community policing.
