Goodyear Reminds Residents that Tap Water is Safe to Drink

Water questions answered during increasing COVID-19 concerns

The city of Goodyear is committed to continuing to deliver the exceptional services that our residents depend on while keeping our community safe. That includes providing residents with accurate information related to water.

Is it safe to drink tap water?

City of Goodyear tap water is safe to drink. Goodyear, like all cities, uses chlorine for disinfection. Chlorine is extremely effective in removing and killing pathogens and viruses, including the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. For more information on the safety of drinking tap water, visit the EPA’s website.

Can I flush baby wipes in the toilet?

Do NOT flush anything but waste and toilet paper in the toilet. With many relying on baby wipes, "flushable" wipes, or paper items for personal cleaning, it is important to know that these items do not break down in the sewer system and can cause costly backups into your home or street and can significantly impact our wastewater treatment plants.

If you have to use something besides toilet paper, please dispose of those items in the trash.

Where can I find more information about the impacts of COVID-19 in Goodyear?

The City of Goodyear is working closely with state health officials to be proactive in reducing the spread of the virus. For the most up-to-date information on community impacts in Goodyear and how you can be aware, stay safe, and reduce the spread, visit goodyearaz.gov/coronavirus.

Arizona’s Water Supplies Remain Secure and Resilient

Jointly issued by: ADEQ, ADWR, AMWUA, CAP, SRP

Water is critical to public health, our quality of life, the desert environment and our economy. That is why we are all doing our part to ensure you always have water at your tap, even during times of concern.

We have planned and invested in robust and resilient water supplies, infrastructure and processes so that your local water provider can deliver you water every day of every year. Through our collaborative efforts, we can bring water from Arizona’s mountains and the Colorado River, and manage our groundwater.

We are each taking extra precautions by implementing resiliency plans that have been developed for times like these to better ensure essential operations continue without interruption and we can fully support local water providers - all of which could not be achieved without the dedicated efforts of all of our employees.

Together we remain committed to safeguarding our water supplies so they remain secure not just for today, but for the future.
