Virtual Block Watch

What is Virtual Block Watch?

Virtual Block Watch is a contemporary crime prevention and investigative tool that allows you to register your home/business security cameras with the Goodyear Police Department. This is a completely voluntary program, and Goodyear Police Department will not have access to view or monitor your cameras.

How does this help Goodyear PD?

Often times, after a crime, detectives and officers must go door to door to obtain any surveillance footage that may be helpful in their investigation. This process is time consuming, and footage may expire before it can be obtained.

By registering your cameras, your camera information will go into a secure database. During the course of an investigation, our detectives can view a map of all the registered cameras in the area and easily contact the camera's owners in an attempt to obtain any relevant video footage.

How can I sign up?

Signing up is simple. Click below and complete the attached form. Your information will be securely entered to our registration database, and you will receive a conformation email. That's it! If a detective thinks your security footage may be of value during an investigation, they may reach out to you via email or phone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will this assist the Goodyear Police Department?

This will assist detectives by collaborating with the virtual community who may have captured digital evidence of a crime for prosecution.

Do you recommend any specific security camera system?

This will be completely up to the owner’s discretion. It is recommended that cameras are at a resolution of 1080p for a clear picture, but a 720P system can be registered. A DVR with a 30-day retention is preferred.

Does the Police Department have remote access to my security camera system?

No. There are no streaming capabilities or live feed from your cameras. The Police Department will simply have the address of the registered system along with the directions of the camera views.

If my security camera system captures a criminal or crime, will I be required to testify in court?

No. Once the Police Department copies the portion of video needed for prosecution, the Police Department will testify on the digital evidence collected from your security camera system.
